What a fascinating article, and a fascinating bloke - thanks for pointing it out. I passed it on to a Dutch friend who had no idea about the secrets, and wished she'd hung onto a few of the old notes.
I made sure I got 2 crispy new 50 guilder notes out of the ATM here in Amsterdam before we switched to Euros, so I could frame them - front and back.
The best banknote ever.
Dutch Gilders, beautiful indeeed, as are many simple and practical things Dutch.
Incidentally when I was in Ethiopia the money was the foulest smelling cash I've ever come across, rancid tattered and dripping poverty.
