The Ropes

DSCF4009

I feel like I've already shown these but I can't see them anywhere in Ace Jet now so perhaps I'm wrong.

Ropes. And floats.

I was digging through a load of photos to find some to use on a small advertising project. I do have a tendency to take photos with a graphic design application in mind. Not a real, specific one, but I'll compose a shot with space in it, instinctively imagining it being used on a book or brochure cover or something. It's just a habit. I do it without thinking too much. And every now and then, the photos come in useful.

So, let's hope that in the future, someone asks me to design something to do with sea fishing or ropes or harbours so I can use this lot.

Rubbish Photos #06

DSCF0308

Perhaps I've just become more aware of things around me but I feel that one of the most interesting aspects of Belfast is underpinned by how compact it is. For example: We take our boys to Victoria Park because it's very flat for Seth to get to grips with cycling. There's also a BMX track and Noah loves whizzing around it at top speed. It's a park so it's hardly surprising that there's ducks to feed. But take a little stroll around the lake, a cheeky right through the trees and you're at an inlet from the harbour where private boats are moored. And just across the water is the end of Belfast City Airport's runway, so planes swoop in low over your head frequently. Bikes, Boats and Aeroplanes. And actually yes, Trains and Automobiles just over the fence.

Haven't done one of these for a while. I've taken loads, just forgot to post any. I love this fence. Pass it frequently. I think kids must spend their evenings jumping and kicking it. It's really long and kicked in all along. But the pale grey facets are kind of fascinating.

Public Information

DSCF1287

Sooner or later you'll realise that I'm just disguising my holiday snaps in a thin veil of graphic interest. It's basically like "the old days", when your friends would invite you over "for drinks" only to unravel their projection screen and subject you to a piss-poor attempt to evocatively capture their holiday experience. The bad news is, today, there's no duty-free Sangria to smooth your way through. If it's too much for you to bare please accept my apologies. On my reckoning, I've two or three more posts to get through before we can return to the usual land-based ephemeral mix.

When not peering overboard at the wash, I passed time recording important information which we all hoped would not be needed.

Rubbish Photos #04

The last rubbish photo was from one end of last year's holiday. This one is from the other end. Taken as we taxied into position at Pisa.

I should explain really. While I make no claim that the photos I'm posting under this title are in actual fact the opposite, they are photos that I like a lot. I like them a lot but they're kind of odds and ends that seem to have no place anywhere else and I've been wondering what to do with them for some time. They are just snaps. Generally low quality and often taken in a fleeting moment with little consideration. Hence that running heading. This one is from last year's summer trip to Tuscany. Taken at Dublin Airport, while in the cattle-market-esque queue to get on our cheap flight.

Ferry

We ate chips and watched the ferry go out. And I took a rubbish photo.

We all take loads of photos don't we? Some are quite good. Lots of them are rubbish. I really like the rubbish ones. They're my favourite ones. Clearing the camera of digital debris, I found these from when we had all that snow. They're rubbish. The top one's my favourite. The last one's the rubbishest.
